Lots of fun stuff going on in Cape Town lately. A few weeks ago, we gathered at a friend’s apartment to watch the Cape Argus, a huge bike race. Their apartment, situated in a Sea Point high-rise, had the perfect view of the ocean and part of the race route below. It’s a huge race, with thousands of people biking all around the Cape of Good Hope peninsula. Sadly, we didn’t get there early enough to watch Lance Armstrong ride by, though it was still quite fun to see everyone else, not to mention having a wonderful brunch on the balcony.

Which was perfect for watching the bikers below
Last week, Elton John was in town and we got tickets to go see him play an outdoor evening concert at Kirstenbosch botanical gardens. It was an amazing show, with wonderful scenery as an added benefit. A bunch of people from work were there, a lot of whom have met Elton John on multiple occasions (but we weren’t quite that cool). He is a huge supporter of m2m and his Elton John AIDS Foundation is largely responsible for funding our new M&E initiatives, as he gave us well over $1,000,000 to upgrade our M&E system and conduct more Operations Research. He may be a huge celebrity, but you have to hand it to him for using his money for a good cause – and not just to fund our day-to-day work at the sites, but to really try and strengthen our organizational capacity.
Watching the beautiful sunset unfold
And speaking of celebrities, Annie Lennox stopped by the m2m office this week!
